DARWIN ABORIGINAL ART FAIR FOUNDATION
NORTHERN TERRITORY
SPONSORSHIP & FUNDRAISING STRATEGY
THE BRIEF
The Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair Foundation (DAAFF) is a not-for-profit Indigenous organisation that is owned and governed by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Centres it represents. It engaged Mayvin Global to develop a Tourism Action Plan for its flagship annual event, the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.
The Art Fair is staged in Darwin each year and showcases the contemporary fine art and design of more than 70 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Centres from across Australia.
Mayvin Global was engaged to develop a Sponsorship and Fundraising Strategy to support its funding strategy review. The goals of the strategy were to:
-
Identify if the important role of art centres for First Nations communities could attract private sector funding.
-
Assess the global Indigenous approach to private sector fundraising for art fairs or equivalent.
-
Support self-generated revenue where there is a declining commitment of government funding.
-
Review the current offering /approach to sponsors and determine an appropriate pathway.
THE OUTCOME
A total of 16 recommendations were presented for strategic and tactical growth opportunities across DAAFF’s entire portfolio of events and activities including, the annual art fair.
DAAFF was able to implement recommendations incrementally throughout 2024, including a dedicated internal resource focused on sponsorship (in addition to philanthropy).
Mayvin Global worked with our organisation over 12 months to create a new Sponsorship and Fundraising Strategy. In that time, our organisation experienced huge growth. The Mayvin Global team accommodated much of the evolution and change during that time and had the flexibility and expertise to grow and learn with us!
Their industry knowledge and commitment to supporting our First Nations organisation was and remains incredibly impressive. We highly recommend them and look forward to working with their dynamic team in the future.
